Old Brewery Quarter Development Set to Transform High Street

Work is to begin on the exciting Old Brewery Quarter project this spring

Work on the Old Brewery Quarter – formerly the Burton High Street Project – is set to commence this spring, a monumental regeneration project to revolutionise High Street, as part of Burton’s successful bid to the Towns Fund programme.

Planning approval came last autumn, with Seddon Construction assigned to work on the first phase, including preparation of the site to restore historic buildings, celebrate Burton’s world-famous brewing heritage, and provide new cultural, leisure, and educational opportunities for locals and visitors alike.

The works will begin with the demolition of Trent House, transformation of Carling House Data Centre, and development of the adjacent workshop, in addition to the installation of vital services required in future phases of the project.

Already, improvements have been completed for the Washlands and Garden of Remembrance, enhancing the riverside into a welcoming space for everyone to enjoy, with accessible boardwalks and trails, play areas, natural swales to work in tune with the landscape’s flooding cycle, and habitats suitable for wildlife such as aquatic planting zones.

Cllr Louise Walker, Cabinet Member for Regeneration, said: “The start of work on the Old Brewery Quarter is a real milestone for Burton. This project will protect our heritage, bring the High Street to life and provide spaces and opportunities for everyone in the community to enjoy. I’m excited to see these plans taking shape on the ground this spring.”

The Old Brewery Quarter development sits at the core of Burton’s wider regeneration programme, restoring historic sites alongside innovating new public spaces and introducing community-oriented projects.
