Three Midlands bands will hep transform Burton Library into a live music venue this Saturday, 25 July, for an event being put on by Sonic Boom Music CIC.
The ‘Rumble’ event will open with Burton alternative band Flamehead, who will be performing the whole of their upcoming album, half life. These will be followed by “elder emos” outfit Dirt Bloom. Alternative rock group Made You Look / Made You Stare are to headline the evening, which comes after the Government case studied the work of Sonic Boom Music CIC in its recent “plan for music“.
Tom Miller of Made You Look / Made You Stare said that “it feels as though everything in the Government’s new plan comes together in this one event”.
You have three grassroots acts being given a platform, Sonic Boom Music CIC creating opportunities in Burton, and the Library being used as a welcoming live music space.
It shows that original live music does not have to happen only in traditional venues or major cities. It can happen right here in Burton, in buildings that belong to the whole community.
Sonic Boom co-founder and Director Chris Baldwin added that “local people are approaching us wanting to co-design original music nights, and Burton Library has opened its doors, again, to make the space for it to happen”.
That’s the model. Culture is built by people and institutions choosing to work together. It’s exactly this kind of joined-up thinking between community and local government that got Sonic Boom Festival and Burton featured as a case study in the Government’s new music strategy.
