The kindness of locals has truly shone through with an incredible amount of money raised in support of St Giles Hospice’s essential services this winter
St Giles Hospice – a registered charity offering free specialist palliative and end of life care to people living with terminal illnesses across Staffordshire, North Birmingham, and surrounding areas – has achieved incredible fundraising efforts over the winter season.
The charity is pleased to have raised an incredible more than £80,000 at its annual Winter Raffle as a result of the generosity and support of the local community. More than 60,000 tickets were sold as part of the event, where participants had the opportunity to win a £5,000 jackpot, while also making a valuable contribution to support the hospice’s essential services.
All of the proceeds gained from ticket sales have gone directly towards St Giles Hospice’s work in providing end of life care for local people, and their loved ones, living with a terminal illness.
Helen Curran, Individual Giving Manager at St Giles Hospice said: “We are absolutely overwhelmed by the kindness of our supporters. By playing our Winter Raffle and making additional donations on top of their ticket purchases, the funds raised by our supporters will make a huge contribution towards funding specialist palliative and end of life care services for the local people we support.”
Not only do the raffles play a significant role in the charity’s fundraising efforts, but it also hosts a weekly lottery to help cover the almost £10 million it needs to provide care each year. The government provides less than a quarter of these funds needed, thus it relies heavily on donations and income generation from the local community.
