Local photographer in focus: Cadence Higgins

Cadence seeks to “capture the moment” of the live music setting.

At a 2024 gig in Birmingham, Cadence Higgins saw a music photographer taking shots from all around the venue and instantly saw herself in that role. She has tried all types of photography – landscapes and portraits included – but tells the Echo that that related specifically to live music “spoke out to me the most”.

“I enjoy working with people,” Cadence explains, adding that she likes to “capture the moment” of the live setting. This includes focussing less on the editing of photos taken at events. The aim is to “make it feel like you were there”.

Cadence has completed a photography course at Burton College and will soon start studying the same at university. Her aim – something she would “love” to do – is to become a full-time photographer.

You can already expect to see her at most gigs in the local area, camera in hand. Her first music work was for Death on the High Street’s performance last year at the Sonic Boom popup shop in Cooper’s Square.

Cadence also expressed particular thanks to Burton band Zebedee for helping her gain access to her first gig as a photographer, for Big Rhino’s December concert at The Prince of Brewers (also supported by Kitten Pyramid).
