Burton neighbourhood bakery celebrates its ninth birthday

Head down today for pizza, a DJ and drinks.

HLÆFDIGE is throwing a party today, Saturday 18 April, to mark nine years of being in business.

The small, artisan neighbourhood bakery started out on a stall on Burton Market, just around the corner from its current location, the Abbey Arcade.

They produce the most delicious bread – there could have been no better choice for my bacon sandwich on Friday – as well as a good range of sweet and savoury treats.

Its owners say HLÆFDIGE is also about more than just this: “Not just bread, but people, connection, community.”

This will no doubt be clear at today’s event, which will run from 2-8pm, and will include pizza, a DJ, drinks and, of course, “good times”!

HLÆFDIGE is usually open Fridays and Saturdays, from 10am-3pm, at 5-6 Abbey Street, DE14 1HQ – opposite the entrance to the Market Hall. It is next door to the organic greengrocers, Feorm.
