The Turn Burton Pink campaign is rolling out across Burton for the month of September!

Now in its second year, the campaign organised by the Burton & District Fundraising Group for Cancer Research, has attracted support from many of Burton’s local businesses including M Fit, Nationwide, Nineteen, Frank Innes, Henry Rose, Lifestyle Barbers, Johnson’s Florist, Ego, Anslow WI, Coytes Furnishers, The Dog, The Anchor, Blue Rose Crafts and so many more who will all be doing their bit to raise vital funds for Cancer Research UK.
The campaign aims to get as many businesses, shops, restaurants, cafes, schools, community groups and individuals as possible to go pink. It can be as easy as displaying a collection box to organising your own event. There is no end to the ideas for events for customers, clients, colleagues, friends or family from coffee mornings, tombolas, raffles, cake sales, dye your hair pink, table top sale, charity auction, games night, BBQ, sponsored event, quiz night…. anything…. just think pink! In fact, two brave individuals are facing their ultimate challenge as one will be dying his hair pink for the month while the other is being sponsored for being waxed. We can’t divulge exactly where yet!!
The Turn Burton Pink campaign takes inspiration from a Yorkshire town who held their ‘Turn the Town Pink’ event last year. Chair, Anne Peace who set up the Burton upon Trent and District Fundraising Group for Cancer Research UK some 15 years ago, decided to give it a go in Burton. Last year the campaign raised £5,000 and it is hoped that this year’s campaign will surpass that! Swadlincote hosted its Turn Swad Pink campaign earlier this year and raised over £4,000.
Everyone of us will, at some point, be affected by cancer in some way. Most of us will know at least one person who has had a diagnosis. Cancer Research UK is the world’s largest independent cancer research organisation that funds research into more than 200 types of cancers and their treatments. The charity does not receive direct Government funding, it relies on donations, legacies, community fundraising, events, retail, and corporate partnerships.
The volunteer fundraising team at the Burton upon Trent and District Fundraising Group have organised every kind of fundraising event imaginable in and around their patch which spans from Ashbourne to Coalville, raising thousand’s of pounds for Cancer Research UK. The team know only too well the impact that cancer has on individual’s and families. They hope that you will be supporting Turn Burton Pink in every way you can this September.
