Burton Banter named finalist in major local community award

The overall winner will be announced this Sunday.

Burton Banter (Unit 10/11 Windsor Industrial Estate, Hawkins Lane, DE14 1QF) was nominated for this year’s ‘Community Award’ category in the BBC Derby Make a Difference Award 2026 and has been named a finalist!

Those behind the project insist Banter is “more than bricks and mortar” – it’s “a safe space for Burton’s community”, one which is operated as a registered Community Interest Company (CIC).

They are “proud” to have been named a finalist, saying:

Out of thousands of grassroots initiatives across the region, our dedicated work providing a safe harbour, battling social isolation and supporting neurodivergent and vulnerable families has been recognised on the regional stage.

This nomination belongs entirely to our incredible volunteers, our players and every single community member who walks through our doors and helps us prove that real human kindness is a force of nature.

We can’t wait until 13 September to celebrate all the inspiring nominations and find out the overall winner!

Upcoming events at Banter include:

  • 19-20 September: Burton Book Bash 2026 (tickets still available for the Sunday).
  • Bike Night every Friday from 5pm.
  • Live music every Saturday (including Emo Rock Night on 12 September, Gun Money on 19).
  • Inclusive disco the third Friday of every month.
