Burton Rugby Club announces 2026/27 season leadership

The appointments recognise two of the club’s most respected figures.

Burton Rugby Football Club has confirmed that Alex Nesbitt will continue as Club Captain for the 2026/27 season, with Charlie Bunting once again serving as Vice Club Captain.

The appointments recognise two of the club’s most respected figures and continue a proud tradition at Battlestead Croft.

Club Captain is one of the most prestigious roles in Burton RFC’s history, representing far more than leadership of the senior men’s section. The role is symbolic of the entire club, with the Captain acting as a role model and ambassador for players of all ages across the men’s, women’s, mini and junior sections.

Unlike many clubs, Burton RFC’s Club Captain is not reserved solely for a first-team player. Any member of the club – whether from the senior men’s teams, women’s section or social rugby – can be elected by the membership, reflecting its strong community values and inclusive culture.

Away from the pitch, both Alex and Charlie also play an important role in shaping the future of Burton RFC as members of the club’s main committee, helping to influence decisions and drive the club forward.

Perhaps most pleasing of all is that both leaders are products of Burton RFC’s own Mini and Junior section. Having progressed through every stage of the club’s player pathway before becoming senior leaders is a testament to the opportunities available at Burton and highlights the strength of its homegrown development programme.

As preparations continue for the new Regional 1 Midlands campaign, Burton RFC is proud to have two outstanding homegrown leaders guiding the club both on and off the field.
