Trent & Dove to Build 14 New Homes on Neglected Horninglow Garage Site

A former garage site in Burton upon Trent will be transformed into a much-needed £3 million housing development

Social housing provider Trent & Dove – owner and manager of more than 6,500 homes for rent and shared ownership across East Staffordshire, South Derbyshire, and North West Leicestershire – continues to bridge the gap to affordable housing with the help of a new scheme supported by government funding.

The latest in Trent & Dove’s projects will involve the transformation of a former garage site into a £3 million development – supported by grant funding from Homes England and in partnership with property developers Langcroft Developments – comprising 14 essential, high-quality, affordable homes off Harbury Street, Horninglow.

Before the build can start, it will be necessary to demolish the derelict private house and garage onsite. Then, work can begin on the unused brownfield land for the purpose of erecting 10 new social rent and four shared ownership properties for people who live locally. Looking to include a range of two- and three-bedroom homes, these will be suitable for both couples and families.

Charlie Riley, Development Director at Trent & Dove, said: “This development is a great example of how underused brownfield land can be transformed into high-quality, affordable homes that make a real difference to local people.

“With demand for affordable housing continuing to rise, projects like this are vital in helping individuals and families put down roots in the communities they already call home.

“We’re grateful for the support from Homes England and we’re delighted to be working with Langcroft Developments on this project as we continue to deliver on our ambition to build more much-needed homes across the region.”

Trent & Dove is aiming to build 700 new homes between 2022 and 2027, with this project contributing to that figure and supporting the government’s target of building 1.5 million new homes. This comes in light of figures published by the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local Government (MHCLG), which reveal a net loss of 3,834 homes for social rent.

Danny Lang, Director at Langcroft Developments said: “We’re proud to be partnering with Trent & Dove on this important development, building much-needed affordable homes on a brownfield site in Burton upon Trent.

“This development reflects our commitment to delivering high-quality, sustainable housing that responds to local need, and we’re pleased to be working with trusted partners to help create homes that will benefit individuals and families for years to come.”

Work has already begun onsite, with completion expected by November 2026.
