West End comes to Burton as Razzamataz welcomes Hairspray professional Kirsty Ingram

The workshop will take place at John Taylor Free School.

Young performers in the local area are being given the opportunity to learn from a professional performer when Razzamataz Burton welcomes Kirsty Ingram for a special Hairspray workshop on Saturday 17 October.

The workshop will take place at John Taylor Free School, the regular venue for Razzamataz Burton, and will be open to young people aged six-18.

Kirsty Ingram is an experienced professional performer and choreographer whose credits include Hairspray, Cats, Grease, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, The Addams Family, Bugsy Malone and other West End and touring productions. She has also worked with leading choreographers including Arlene Phillips, Drew McOnie and Bill Deamer.

The Hairspray workshop will give young people the chance to experience professional musical theatre training first-hand, developing their performance skills while working on material inspired by the hit musical.

For Rachel Lazzari and Ben Aldridge, the husband-and-wife Principals behind Razzamataz Burton, bringing professional opportunities like this to local children is at the heart of their vision for the new school.

Rachel and Ben are both former performers and are passionate about creating a theatre school where children can develop not only their skills in singing, dancing and drama, but also their confidence, creativity and self-belief.

“Our vision for Razzamataz Burton-on-Trent is about so much more than putting on shows,” they said.

We are committed to providing wonderful opportunities for local children and young people and helping them experience what the performing arts industry is really like.

To have someone of Kirsty’s experience coming to Burton to work with our students is incredibly exciting. It gives our young people the opportunity to learn directly from a professional performer and hopefully inspires them to believe that a career in the performing arts could be possible for them too.

Razzamataz Burton-on-Trent is a brand-new performing arts school offering classes in singing, dancing and drama for children aged four–18. The school is built around an inclusive, nurturing and community-focused approach, with opportunities for students to develop both their performing skills and wider confidence.

The school officially launched on 12 September and is now welcoming local families to its Saturday classes at John Taylor Free School.

The Hairspray workshop forms part of Razzamataz Burton-on-Trent’s commitment to bringing exciting experiences and professional industry connections to young people in the local community.
