Nancy has really made the place her own. And, more importantly, the beer is great – and really reasonably priced – too!
There are whisperings about Burton seeming to be on the up. The opening today of Bernie’s – a new pub down the town’s own Vegas Strip of boozers, Station Street – will surely play an important role in this progression.
Burton girl Nancy Collins has left teaching to take on what was Brews of the World – naming the pub after her dog. She is already well known among local punters, having previously worked as Assistant Manager at The Elms on Stapenhill Road – and having drank plenty, and played in a band, in just about all of the others!
While working in the trade, Nancy always insisted that she wouldn’t take on a pub, “but this opportunity was too good to turn down”.
She has really made the place her own – which is code for the fact just about all of the walls are bright yellow, green or blue. There’s a real smart, fresh look about the place.
And, more importantly, the beer is great – and really reasonably priced – too! All of it is from smaller, independent breweries – primarily Bluntrock, a Cornish brewery co-owned by Nancy’s brother, George. Even the soft drinks and snacks are from lesser-know businesses, as part of Nancy’s ethos of “supporting and serving independent brands”.
Bernie’s is dog-friendly, and has a good range of events in the works for the near future.
