Money is being raised for Children’s Air Ambulance and Burton Banter.
After enjoying showcasing the pub “revamped” over the Ale Trail weekend, The Alfred (51 Derby Street) is now preparing for its first Charity Festival day, on Saturday 4 July.
The festival will start at midday, and includes a great lineup of live music – from the GSG vocal trio, The Chex, Sarah Kathleen and Murder of Crows. There will also be a BBQ, and 11 real ales and six ciders served across two bars.
Money is being raised in aid of Children’s Air Ambulance. Landlord Gareth told the Echo that “my daughter passed away at nine months old. I know the heartbreak of losing a child, but if we can help save one child to spare a parent that heartbreak, it’s all worth it.”
Funds will also go to Burton Banter (Unit 10/11, Windsor Industrial Estate, Hawkins Lane), a not-for-profit, inclusive community space that brings together a community of local gamers, music lovers and bikers.
Gareth explains that Banter has “been hit with high business rates, higher cost of living and day-to-day running”, adding that it would be “a sad place to lose for a lot of people”.
Responding, Melissa from Burton Banter told the Echo that “we are so lucky there are so many amazing people always trying to help us keep the space open and accessible for those that need it”.
We wouldn’t be here today and able to offer a safe inclusive space to so many groups without the kindness and support of our communities, so we are always grateful for any support or help.
If we can ever be of any help to any groups or offer space to any groups who need it, we always will do.
A number of stalls will be running through the day, including hook a duck, fun darts, a cake stall and more!
