Burton Albion confirms Bass Charity Vase opponent

The competition is an annual friendly tournament aimed at raising money for local causes.

Burton Albion will face Derby County in this year’s Bass Charity Vase.

Gary Bowyer’s side will host the Rams in their final pre-season fixture on Saturday 1 August, 3pm kick-off.

Founded here in Burton in 1889, the competition is an annual friendly tournament aimed at raising money for local causes. The Brewers have played host to each of the last 21 matches, dating back to 2002.

Albion are the current holders of the inscribed silver rose bowl, having beaten John Eustace’s side by two goals to one in August last year. That victory took the Brewers’ tally to 15 successes in the competition – only Derby County have won more (20).

Prior to Albion’s first representation in the competition, which dates back to 1952, the town was previously represented by Burton Swifts, Burton Wanderers, Burton United, Burton All Saints, Burton Workers’ Union and Burton Town. Those iterations collected the inscribed silver bowl an additional twenty times between them.

The match against the Rams is the Brewers’ first home pre-season fixture to be confirmed. Away trips to Alfreton Town (Saturday 11 July) and Solihull Moors (Tuesday 28 July) have already been announced as part of the pre-season schedule for Gary Bowyer’s side, with more set to be released shortly.

Ticket information for Albion’s home pre-season games will be released in due course.
