The Ahmadiyya Muslim community from the Baitus Saboor Mosque in Winshill ended 2025 by giving out seasonal greeting cards and gifts to neighbours and donating to charities.
The Ahmadiyya Muslim community – who acquired the former Methodist Church building on High Bank Road, Winshill last March – have been a key part of the Burton community for over 60 years. And as they said goodbye 2025, this period has presented the perfect opportunity to reflect on their good deeds over the past year.
These efforts have included the raising of a lot of vital funds for important causes, including £166 as a result of their Macmillan World’s Biggest Coffee Morning. The community also served up chicken biryani to be sold at the Anglesey Arms, which led to the raising of an incredible £5,300 for Burton and Derby Hospital cold cots. Additionally, they raised over £250 for SARAC, which is Mayor Shelagh McKiernan’s chosen charity.
Not only has the community completed brilliant fundraising efforts, but they often help out with Community Action days to clean up litter in Winshill, alongside regular litter picking at the Washlands with Beautiful Burton and BCV (Burton Conservation Volunteers). The mosque has also enjoyed visits from Jacob Collier MP, as well as the Mayor, who has been a friend of the community for many years.

The Ahmadiyya Muslim community’s generosity doesn’t end there, with them embracing the festive season of giving by delivering seasonal greeting cards and gifts to neighbours, including delicious food. They donated to charities, too, which included a visit to Burton HOPE with clothes, food, presents, and cards.

Founded in India in 1889, the community is renowned for its unmatched peace record and for its contributions to building harmonious societies. The community has been established in the UK since 1913 and built its first London Mosque, The London Mosque in Putney, in 1926. Burton’s Ahmadiyya Muslim community is one of 100 branches across the UK, standing as a true local pillar for education, integration, and interfaith peace.
Burton’s Ahmadiyya Muslim community welcomes all to visit their mosque, inviting locals to several seminars and events throughout the year with the aim to bring people together and develop a deeper understanding of each other.

Now, with the arrival of 2026, the community has started their new year in a way that may be considered “a little different”, with prayers and enjoying breakfast together, followed by cleaning the mosque, streets, churches, and community centres of Burton. The community continues to demonstrate an inspiring level of commitment toward helping others in the local area through selfless acts of kindness – and we look forward to seeing this continue to unfold into the coming year.
