Illustrator launches a new memorabilia range capturing life in Burton at the town’s creative hub and makers’ market as demand for space soars.

Featuring unique local sayings, artistic views from town landmarks and special printed gifts, the unique ‘Burton Range’ is launching at the Crafty Attic, above Helen’s Bake House and Tea Room, in Market Place.
Following the successful launch of Made in Swad by creative Sarah de Roeck, it will be the first time that the illustrative Burton themed gifts will be available in the town.
Graphic designer Sarah, who has spent the last 6 months researching and designing the Burton themed mugs, coasters, magnets and prints, has picked out scenes which capture life in the Brewing Capital from the Swans at Stapenhill Gardens to the Cooper’s Square Cooper. Each design is crafted to capture the town’s rich heritage.
The Burton Upon Trent themed items are part of a collection of over 30 local artists and makers who are showcasing their gifts and homeware at the new Crafty Attic in the town, which is also home to a new wool shop and specialist haberdashery.
The new Burton range is designed to celebrate the town and all the landmarks, heritage and culture which people love about the area. I have seen may changes in the area over the years with its industrial past, coalmine heritage, pottery and breweries making the town the ‘Brewing Capital of the World’ and it is an amazing place with its green landscapes, nature and warm people. The illustrations are designed to capture that spirit to rekindle fond memories, celebrate our flourishing future and bring people together through special gifts, mementos and souvenirs.
Crafty Attic has been opened in an upstairs room above Helen’s Bake House in Market Place and is part of a series of extensions to the popular tea rooms. Last year a snug area was created in the former key cutters and shoe repair shop next door adding five new tables after the popular eatery was finding itself turning people away due to a lack of space. As well as the rent a shelf space for local artists and makers for gifts and homeware there is also a dedicated haberdashery stocked with wool, sewing items, buttons and supplies.
Owner Helen Wheat said she was overwhelmed by the response of the community to the new makers’ market so far. She said: “Crafty Attic was born from a desire to bring together local artists and crafters to showcase the multitude of talent we have here in the local area.
The response to the store opening has been phenomenal and we are so excited by the mixture and talent of artists involved. It is lovely to see shoppers finding unique and handcrafted wares while supporting local businesses to thrive in the area.
Sarah launched Made in Swad in 2021 after finding herself with more time to explore the areas around her during COVID. The illustrations are now available to buy as greetings cards, postcards, prints, posters, fridge magnets, mugs, coasters and tea towels.
The new range is now available at the Crafty Attic. More information on featuring at the store can be found by contacting thecraftyattic16@helensbake.house
