A local volunteer-led organisation is making a real difference in Burton, offering both practical help and emotional support to those who need it most.

You1st Emotional Support CIC, founded by mother and son team, has been serving the community for almost four years. Based at the Meadowside Leisure Centre on Mondays and Fridays from 11am to 2.30pm, the group provides food parcels, sanitary products, pet food and wellbeing support, all completely run by volunteers.
What began as an idea between the two directors has grown into a much-loved local organisation that not only supplies essentials but also creates space for connection and kindness. Over the years, You1st has hosted and co-hosted events, built strong links with the community and continued to listen to the challenges local people face, from the rising cost of living to struggles with food and mental health.
Looking ahead, You1st are preparing to host a new event, “B Seen and B Heard”, which aims to shine a light on small charities that often go unrecognised. The event invites the community to nominate organisations they believe are doing an amazing job, with local businesses stepping up to provide sponsorship and raffle prizes.
We love supporting our community and we are finding more people are struggling and opening up about their challenges with bills, food and mental health. The support we receive from the community and from Burton Radio means everything to us, and we would not be where we are without it.
You1st’s journey is a reminder of the power of volunteers and the importance of community-driven support. As they mark four years of service, their work continues to grow and make a lasting impact across Burton.
